Del Harris has long served as a police sheriff in a small Pennsylvania town. His best years are behind him, and there are only monotonous working days ahead, which do not bode well for anything interesting. Every morning Del starts off with another dose of pills and then goes to work. One day he becomes a witness to a crime, which, by all indications, was committed by the son of his beloved woman…

“American Rust ss 2”: release date, announcement

The continuation of the crime TV show “American Rust” will be released! Despite the fact that in January 2022 the creators of the project announced its closure, in June 2022, fans of the series learned about its renewal for the season 2. The exact date of the premiere of the new episodes is unknown, but there is unofficial information that the release is scheduled for the summer of 2023.

Plot

Grace Poe has a hard time in her life. It is not easy for a woman at work, where they are practically not paid, utility bills are endlessly growing, and mortgage debt does not decrease. The bank wants to take the house away from her and sends a notice of eviction. Her son Billy is about to receive an athletic scholarship — this is a small chance to make things a little better. Del Harris, Grace’s lover, also helps her.

When Grace has to move out of her home, she goes to Virgil, her ex-husband who lives with another woman. She insists that Virgil eventually help her stay in the house, thereby doing something good for her own son. Then the man goes to an open meeting with the bank representatives and intimidates them with a shotgun.

Harris was nearby at this point, but made no attempt to disarm Virgil. The bank representatives were pretty scared, and Grace managed to postpone the move for a short while. The woman decided to spend this evening with Del, but an urgent call in the middle of a date made him go to work. The reason for the call was a street fight involving Billy.

On the street a drunk guy stuck to him. Billy tried to resolve the conflict peacefully, but in the end, anger took possession of him and he hit the offender too hard. Thanks to the prompt actions of Harris and his connections, Billy managed to get off with a suspended sentence of six months, but during this time he was deprived of an athletic scholarship.

Shortly after this event, Del receives an urgent call and he finds a corpse in an abandoned building, and next to him is a jacket, which Billy was wearing without removing. Harris manages to hide the evidence, but what happens next? Who committed the murder? Did the guy do this? For what? All of these questions have yet to be answered by Harris.

Del will face a difficult choice: on the one hand — work, on the other hand — a beloved woman, whose son needs protection. Which side will Harris take?

Interesting Facts

1. For the first time they started talking about the TV series in 2017, when the USA Network company expressed its intention to film the book of the same name by Philipp Meyer. After spending a year looking for a leading actor, the project was closed. A year later, work was resumed by Showtime. Jeff Daniels was cast for the role of Del Harris, and a pilot episode aired on September 11, 2021.
2. The novel “American Rust” by the American writer Philipp Meyer was published in 2009. Readers and critics spoke warmly about the work – the novel quickly became a bestseller and was included in the list of the best novelties of 2009.
3. The TV show was directed by Craig Zisk (“Shameless“, “Scrubs”, “The Office”, “Entourage”), John Dahl (“Red Rock West”, “Breaking Bad”) and Darnell Martin (“The Walking Dead“, “The Diaries vampire”, “Madam Secretary”, “New Amsterdam“).
4. Jeff Daniels joined the show not only as a leading actor, but also became a producer of the season 1. In 2020, he participated in the TV show “The Comey Rule”, and after this project, he immediately went to the set of the show “American Rust”.
