A team of people with superpowers are trying to cope with the mistakes of the past. Together with this, the heroes solve the problems that happen to them in the present. In the fall of 2021, the HBO Max management officially confirmed that the sequel to the TV show “Doom Patrol” will take place, but the exact date is still difficult to say, because filming has not yet begun.

Plot

1988 year. Cliff Steele has an accident in his sports car. His body is not functioning, and the scientist Niles Caulder decides to do everything possible to keep the brain alive. 7 years later, Cliff wakes up and does not recognize his own voice. Caulder completely robotic his body and implanted his brain inside – this made Steele stronger, but much uglier.

1950s. Rita Farr prepares for a new day of filming, showing everyone her obnoxious personality. Another shot in which Rita falls into the river ends with something terrible for her. She spreads and turns into a formless entity, and others cannot understand what happened to the actress. When Rita takes human form again, Caulder finds her and brings her to his house.

1960s. Larry Trainor is a test pilot of military aircraft, hides a passion for a colleague from his family and is in every possible way afraid of outside condemnation. The wife and children, like most colleagues, do not even realize that the father is in love with a man. During the next flight, Larry was hit by a clot of intelligent energy, after which he had to wrap himself in bandages, as he exuded radiation.

Larry also came to Niles and lives on his estate, like all of the above characters. There is also Crazy Jane, which has 64 personalities. But the worst thing is that each of these personalities have their own abilities. Sometimes their antics end for the professor’s house and nearby cities with new destruction, and unlucky superheroes have to be sent home.

But soon Caulder realizes that even such losers will sooner or later have to face evil. New heroes appear in the team. For example, the girl Dorothy, who has not aged a day since 1927. She has a monkey face and can call upon her inner demons for help. Sometimes it works against her, for example when she gets scared.

Caulder hopes that no one will harm his creatures, but he understands that one day they will come out and appear to people. His heroes will be forced to defend the world. Well, in the meantime, they are learning to live in harmony with themselves and carry out their next mission…

Interesting Facts

1. The TV series is based on the DC Comics comic of the same name and is a spin-off of the TV show “Titans”, which was released a year earlier. There, the main characters of the “Doom Patrol” TV series have already appeared, but as minor characters.
2. The characters, whose appearance has changed over time, were played by different actors. For example, Matt Bomer played Larry before the accident, and then Matthew Zuk, wrapped in bandages, played him. Brendan Fraser played Cliff Steele, but after becoming Robotman, Riley Shanahan started playing him.
3. The first season was broadcast on the DC Universe channel, but subsequently all episodes were and will be released on HBO Max.
4. For Timothy Dalton, season 4 may be the last, as the storyline of his character is interrupted in several universes of the comic book. It is currently unknown how the writers will deal with his character. The actor himself does not intend to leave the project unnecessarily, because he adores his colleagues and his hero.
