“86 / Eighty Six ss 2”: release date, announcement
The unprecedented success of Season 1, shown in 2 parts with a short break between premieres, pushes the curiosity of fans of the anime “Eighty Six / 86”. However, officially, the project management is in no hurry to talk about the new season. And while the information is kept secret, analysts predict the unambiguous premiere of the continuation of the series, and already in 2023.
Most likely, the difficulty of releasing Season 2 will lie in the availability of source material. Once it is assembled, the director will resume his work. According to forecasts by anime experts, the continuation of adaptation will not be released until the fall of 2023. But these are only partial predictions! We are waiting for official information.
Plot
The civilian population of all 85 regions of the Republic of San Magnolia lives an ordinary measured life, enjoys freedom and the world around them, and not everyone knows about the existence of region number 86. Most people do not even suspect that fierce battles are fought with a neighboring state every day – the Empire of Giad, where people die day after day. After all, the news keeps repeating: “There were no casualties during the military operation”.
Shin has been in command of the 86th Spearhead squadron for several years. After each difficult mission, another token is added to his “piggy bank”, which he takes from the deceased soldier. Shin loses his comrades, but he is not going to give up his mission. Moreover, there are only a couple of years left until the end of the war.
With the advent of a new curator, Lena, everything changes. He gains not only a strong mentor, but also a loyal friend who can respect them regardless of hair and eye color. The acquaintance of the main characters is not accidental, and after the meeting, a lot will be revealed for them…

- Shin / Shinei Nōzen – 16-year-old squadron commander of the 86th District; has the nickname “Undertaker”; ruthless, but just, honest, strong soldier; constantly hears the voices of the Legions, and to distract himself from the never-ending voices, Shin reads; obeys the orders of Lena, who becomes his friend.
- Lena / Vladilena Mirizé – officer of the San Magnolian; received the rank of major at the age of 16; Lena is an excellent tactician, intelligent and decisive; due to her fighting qualities, she is a valuable soldier and a brilliant leader; believes that personal life, marriage and family are not as important as protecting her people, so the girl prefers to fight; thinks Shin is the perfect soldier.
- Para-RAID – a neural network with the help of which communication is carried out, even over long distances, between the operators of the Republic and the 86th.

- The adaptation was directed by Toshimasa Ishii, who also presented anime such as “Fate / Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia“, “The Town Where Only I am Missing” and others.
- The anime is based on the eponymous light novel written by Asato Asato. The light novel was first published in February 2017 in the Dengeki Bunko magazine of ASCII Media Works. Based on the light novel, the manga of the same name was created, which has been published since October 2018 in Young Gangan magazine by Square Enix. Also in June 2020, a spin-off manga titled “86: Operation High School” was released.
- Lena’s nickname is “Bloody Reina”. This is a play on words from her full name Vladilena and her nickname “The Bloodstained Queen”. Reina means “Queen” in Spanish.
- The protagonist’s name “Shin” is a play on words from the Japanese “Shi” meaning “Death” and the English “Sin”.
