The sad adventures of a team of blacks, who became the most unwanted guests in the land of whites, did not leave anyone indifferent. And it’s not only their desire to make the world cleaner without monsters, but also their desire to prove to white that skin color does not matter.
Despite the huge audience interest in the film, HBO did not renew the TV show for season 2. A new contract with Misha Green, the creator of the project, was not signed, even after she presented the completed script for season 2. This became known only in July 2021, when HBO officially announced the closure of the fantastic drama “Lovecraft Country”.

Plot

Returning from the Korean War as a veteran, 22-year-old Atticus Freeman wants to achieve several goals at once. And at this time, all his acquaintances are indignant at why such a smart guy like Tic decided to go to the service at all. Now, having returned to his native places, he has completely changed – he has become courageous, which others could not fail to note.

Among his past acquaintances is Letitia Lewis, a girl who does not want to live according to established laws and always goes against other people’s opinions. Leti is ready to quarrel with all her relatives, but she will never be led by circumstances. It is she who first learns the true motives for which Atticus left to serve.

When the guy was still a teenager, he liked to read. He read and studied many books with Uncle George, but his father never gave his approval. Moreover, Tic’s father constantly drank, which made the boy run away from him into the army. Sadly, Tic also had to come back to the godforsaken town because of his father.

Not once during the guy’s army service, his father did not ask how his son was doing. And then a strange letter came in which he spoke about some kind of Lovecraft. Tic didn’t understand what was going on. But suddenly his uncle wrote a letter that he had not been able to find his father for two weeks. Deciding to end the old grudges, Tic goes in search of his father and finds himself embroiled in an adventure.

Together with Leti and Uncle George, they drive along the highway and stumble upon various obstacles, ranging from the sheriff who hates blacks, to the unknown creatures in the middle of the forest. On the way, they meet a strange woman in a silver car and later find out who she is. Turning to the nearest castle for help, they become welcome guests.

It turns out that when Atticus’s father spoke about Lovecraft Country, he was referring to the estate where the people from the castle are. Now the trinity have to learn a lot about the world to which they belong, and about the dangers that only they can overcome.

Actors and their roles

• Atticus “Tic” Freeman – Former soldier; loves to study books with his uncle; he is ashamed of his drunken father, who constantly pulled him into trouble, nevertheless, having learned about his disappearance, he came to look for his parent; got into a strange society where he plays an important role; often comes across dislike from white people – Jonathan Majors.
• Letitia “Leti” Lewis – Atticus’s childhood friend, a rebel, never follows the lead; in love with Tic, while both of them do not hide it; brave, runs well, can sacrifice her life for friends; Leti is on bad terms with relatives, but she does not consider it necessary to be changed; enters Lovecraft Country with Tic – Jurnee Smollett.
• George Freeman – Uncle of Atticus, older brother of his father; tries to improve relations between brother and nephew, shielding the behavior of Tic’s father, but for a guy this is not a reason to treat his own son like that; George is married, he has a beloved daughter, but he often has to leave for work – Courtney B. Vance.

Interesting Facts

1. Jurnee Smollett liked her new look with her “those years” hairstyle. A separate make-up artist was ordered for Smollett to take care of her hair. By the way, Jurnee is not a pure black woman, as can be seen from her skin color. But in the show, she plays exactly that role.
2. Courtney B. Vance has stated that he does not want to do any more TV shows and his participation in “Lovecraft Country” will be the last acting game. Whether the actor actually decided to quit his career, time will tell.
3. Jonathan Majors was happy when he found out that he was one of the main actors of the project. He was previously familiar with Lovecraft’s work, and it is a pleasure to star in a TV show based on his works! Only further work with a demanding director slightly influenced Jonathan’s opinion of an excellent team.
