“Midnight Mass ss 2”: release date, announcement

A sequel to the supernatural drama “Midnight Mass” has yet to be officially announced. And this is very strange, because the ratings of the season 1 turned out to be very high. However, do not forget that even before the release of the episode 1, the picture was announced as a mini-series.

Plot

Washington. Upon arriving at his native fishing village on Crockett Island, Riley Flynn is greeted by his mom. The woman is very religious, she tries to protect her already matured son from sad thoughts about the past years and in every possible way tries to preserve the shaky peace in the family. His father Ed does not understand the new views of Riley, who considers himself an atheist.

Family tensions escalate when Riley refuses to go to church. Using authority, Ed forces his son to attend the service and the guy has to agree. Upon arrival, they realize that they have a new pastor in front of them – Father Paul, who is to replace the elderly Monsignor Pruitt. In a village with a population of 130 people, it is impossible not to notice a new face.

According to the pastor, during the camping trip, Pruitt began to behave strangely, which was noticed by those around him. He was sent to a hospital on the mainland, and Father Paul was sent in return. The parishioners took his words for the truth. Questions came later, when a local old lady began to insist that Father Paul was Pruitt. But initially, no one paid attention to her words…

Also in village recently came Erin Greene, Riley’s high school love. As a teenager, Erin constantly fought with her mother and longed for great heights in the big city. But life did not work out and she had to return. Now Erin is pregnant and periodically visits the local doctor to be sure of the condition of the unborn baby.

One day, Riley notices Monsignor Pruitt walking along the beach. A wild wind and rain begins. The guy understands that he needs to help the pastor. Running out into the street, he does not see anyone. But the next day, countless corpses of cats, which someone managed to break their necks, are thrown ashore. And then the seagulls pounced on the unprecedented prey.

From that moment on, strange things begin to happen in the village: Erin learns that she is not really pregnant. Leeza, confined to a wheelchair after a spinal injury, gets up and walks when the new pastor calls for it. Riley realizes that there is more than just imagination involved. But what exactly?

• Warren — the youngest son of Annie and Ed; works in the church; visits a place with friends where they can safely drink and smoke; on their last trip there, they saw something strange in the bushes, they were chased by cats that bred there in huge numbers — Igby Rigney.
• Annie — Riley and Warren’s mom; a kind woman, constantly attends church; only she was expecting the eldest son from prison; tries to resolve all conflicts peacefully — Kristin Lehman.
• Ed — the father of Riley and Warren; dissatisfied with the behavior of the eldest son; takes care of his wife, who worries about each family member; Ed avoids Riley and conversations with him, because he cannot forgive his son for the gross mistake that resulted in the death of the girl — Henry Thomas.

Interesting Facts

1. On July 1, 2019, Netflix approved filming for “Midnight Mass”, but filming had to be postponed in March 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The premiere screening took place only on September 24, 2021.
2. The TV show received very good reviews on the world famous sites Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Critics have noted the involvement in religious beliefs, which were realistically shown in the series.
3. Season 1 production began on August 17, 2020 in Vancouver, Canada and ran until December 15, 2020.
4. Zach Gilford, Kate Siegel and Hamish Linklater were confirmed as the first actors in the show, and the latter were teenagers playing minor characters: Igby Rigney, Annarah Cymone, Rahul Abburi, Louis Oliver.
