Plot

Pat worked for a long time for the Justice Society of America, which is made up of superheroes. His partner was Sylvester Pemberton, better known as Starman. The imminent death of superheroes was a blow to Pat, but before he died, he received a Cosmic Staff from the Sylvester.

Only a worthy person could use it, and for several years the Cosmic Staff lay among Pat’s tools in the garage. As the years passed, he met a woman, Barbara Whitmore, raising a daughter, Courtney. They soon moved to Blue Valley, where Starman used to live.

By that time, Pat already had a son, Mike. Dissatisfied with the county, Courtney found it difficult to settle into the new school. The girl was often in her dreams and could not start communicating with her peers. She liked those guys with whom the others did not want to communicate: Yolanda, Beth and Rick. And even if they were not popular, they had something to talk about.

One day, wanting to be alone, Courtney goes to the basement. There, the girl finds a Staff that lights up in her hand, and later generally leads along an unknown path. Unwittingly, Courtney shoots the Cosmic Staff into the car of her evil classmate Henry. Frightened, rushing home, she bumps into Pat. He doesn’t like that the Staff sees her as a follower of Starman.

Courtney, on the other hand, stubbornly wants to own a new “toy”. Finding a photo of JSA in Pat’s belongings, she recognizes Starman. He seems to her like her father, but the girl knows that her real father is Sam Kurtis. Trying to see the connection between the killed hero and herself, she begins to look further, and only then learns that Sam Kurtis is Sylvester’s pseudonym…

In recent years, Courtney has acquired a costume, a new name and a team of heroes. But there were also more enemies. It becomes harder to hide, because there is so much crime that Stargirl and her friends unwittingly leave traces. How can a girl overcome the bandits? Who will become her next enemy and which of her friends will die a heroic death?

1. In the last episode of the season 1 of the TV show “Stargirl”, the inscription “Dedicated to Courtney Elizabeth Jones” appears. In 1996, tragedy struck the original comic’s author, Geoff Johns.
