The sequel to the TV comedy show “The Righteous Gemstones” was slated to air in fall 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic has interfered with production. As a result, filming for Season 2 did not begin until the spring of 2021. According to official sources, the new episodes will be released on January 9, 2022!
The series can rightfully be attributed to several genres at once, because in addition to comedy overtones, it also contains elements of drama and a detective story.

Plot
The Gemstones family has been traveling the world for several years, where it has been teaching people its faith teaching. Being convincing, the Gemstones have already recruited millions of followers, but they are not going to stop there. Conquering city by city, they literally ruin local churches.
Eli, the father of the family, runs the business. His eldest son, Jesse, is his chief assistant. As for Kelvin, the youngest son, the requirements for him are less than modest, since the guy does not have a great mind. Once confused in endless vices with a Satanic guy, Kelvin forever destroyed his own reputation.
Jesse, on the contrary, has long been in good standing with his own father, but difficult times have come in his life. Unknown blackmail him with a video on which Jesse spends his leisure time with dubious women, naked men and prohibited psychotropic drugs. How is it that his wife and beautiful children are waiting for him at home?
Trying to cope with the problem, Jesse reports the incident to a circle of people who can help him – in particular, those whose faces appear on the video. The main thing is to hide this video from the people and from the father. At this time, Eli is busy with thoughts of his long-dead wife, whom he often addresses in prayers. And only Judy’s daughter is unhappy with such a course of affairs.
A woman wants to take more part in the family’s business, but her father strongly rejects this idea. Most of the cases are undertaken by men of the Gemstones family, and father in every possible way opposes the participation of Judy. A woman has to engage in personal life and periodically indulge the whims of her father, unable to understand the vulnerable girl’s soul.
Being such different people, the Gemstones are always ready to solve any conflict from the outside. They always remain a family, even if external circumstances contribute to the destruction of their relationship. But in the second season the situation will take a different turn. Will they be able to maintain their previous relationship?

- Eli – the head of the Gemstones; owns all financial assets; constantly talking about his endless memory to his wife; ready to go to any scam in order to maintain their own position; behind a mask of calm and rationality hides a very quick-tempered nature – John Goodman.
- Judy – the daughter of Eli; she is in a relationship that her father and religion do not support; he wants to travel with his brother and father around the countries to baptize people, but his father forbids her – Edi Patterson.
- Kelvin – the youngest and most stupid child in the family; constantly trying to do the impossible, which usually makes others laugh; consisted in a homosexual relationship with a Satanist, after which he lost all respect from his father and brother – Adam DeVine.
Interesting Facts
- Danny McBride not only played the role of Jesse in the series, but also acted as a director and screenwriter. Since he is one of the creators of the project, Danny decided to take maximum participation in the process.
- Alex McCarroll was invited to the series as a costume designer. Previously, he often worked with the film company MARVEL on the set of films “Thor. Ragnarok” and “Black Panther”. The fantastic action movie “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” was also not without his help.
- John Goodman, with great pleasure, accepted from Danny McBride an offer for a leading role in the series “The Righteous Gemstones”. Men have long known each other and previously they had to work together.
