Plot

For decades, the Gemstones have been traveling around the world and preaching their teachings. Under the guise of faith in God, they earn millions, which they successfully spend on dubious entertainment. The head of the family, Eli, tries to maintain order, disturbed by his adult children.

A man greatly yearns for his dead wife and can hardly endure loneliness. But the business needs to expand, and the family goes to the town, where there are already 4 different churches. The pastors learn that the Gemstones want to build their fifth church and decide to talk to Eli in a face-to-face meeting. He refuses. Then Rev John Wesley starts terrorizing them in front of the people. There is little sense from this – people still go to Eli.

At this time, his eldest son Jesse finds himself in a terrible situation: an unknown person asks for a million dollars in exchange for a scandalous video. Deciding that John did it, Jesse and his friends go to his house to scare him. But the man understands their plan and shoots one of Jesse’s friends. Later it turns out that the extortionist is another person.

Judy is not easy either. She stays at home while her dad, Jesse and little brother Kelvin travel the world. The woman is very offended that she is not taken seriously, although she is really smart. Her father is against her relationship with her fiancé BJ, because he believes that a man can touch his beloved only after marriage.

Kelvin is a constant subject of controversy and gossip. His homosexual relationship with a Satanist caused a lot of displeasure from his father. Until now, Kelvin has not broken up with the guy and does not know what to do next. What cannot be taken away from the Gemstones is their belief in family values. They can forever humiliate each other, but in any trouble they will definitely support.

Over time, the number of problems increases and it is no longer possible to solve them without the help of outsiders. Eli is unable to recover from the loss of his wife. Kelvin is increasingly thinking about an antisocial lifestyle. Jesse is horrified to imagine how the video gets to his wife and she leaves, taking the children… What tests await them in the season 3?..

• Kelvin — a lover to argue with Jesse, constantly pisses him off; at baptism, he dipped people deeper than necessary, which caused the parishioners to constantly cough; placed slot machines around the house, with which he spends a lot of time — Adam DeVine.

1. John Goodman rarely appears on TV. In 2021, he voiced Sulley from the animated series “Monsters at work“. Over the years of activity, the actor’s filmography has grown to hundreds of projects. Since 1984, he has been nominated for various awards more than 30 times and won about 15 times. Currently, Goodman is filming only in the project “The Righteous Gemstones”.
2. Danny McBride took an active part in the creation of the picture: he wrote the script and was engaged in directing. When they were casting an actor for the role of Jesse, he decided to try. Brilliantly passing the test, Danny became a member of the cast.
