Plot
John Nolan has spent most of his life promoting a construction company, but after he went broke, the worst things happened. He was left without money, his beloved wife filed for divorce and the meaning of life suddenly disappeared. Trying to make up for the years spent in vain, he tries to find himself. Everything is unsuccessful, but exactly until the moment when the fateful meeting with the robbers in the bank takes place.
Deciding to start a dialogue with them and extend the time for the police to arrive, John talks about his insignificant existence. Having received several punches in the face, Nolan does not stop there and continues his speech. This helped to detain the bandits. The rescuers who arrived and his girlfriend were delighted with John’s courage, and then an idea appeared in his head…
Why not go to the police academy? Without thinking twice, he finishes his studies and goes to the Los Angeles Police Department, where he becomes a rookie, along with Lucy Chen and Jackson West. The girl was constantly subjected to psychological introspection by parents-psychotherapists, and the guy is a close relative of the police chief.
These three are future cops, and the safety of people will depend on their actions. The more harmoniously they work, the calmer it becomes on the streets of the city. At first, everyone had a hard time: Nolan could not save a man, Lucy’s mentor was shot in front of her, and Jackson was powerless in a stalemate. They don’t have time to deal with it. They need to act now.
Lucy initially builds a relationship with John. But when the girl realizes that this threatens her career, she decides to refuse. West becomes closer to his mentor and no longer causes her previous anger. But emergencies do happen and no one knows what tomorrow will bring to the main characters…

- Talia Bishop – Nolan’s mentor, training officer; dreams of building a career, becoming the youngest woman to take the place of police chief; after season 1, she decides to go to the anti-narcotics department, because this way she has a better chance of achieving her goal – Afton Williamson.
- Tim Bradford – a cruel, cynical, disrespectful training officer; Lucy was unlucky enough to become his student, as Tim’s methods were far from harmless; he could force a girl to beat a drug addict in self-defense and considered it a punishment for wrongdoing – Eric Winter.
- Lucy Chen – met John at the academy, where their romance began; later became a rookie and offered to hide the relationship, which was unacceptable for Nolan; often quarrels with parents who have devoted their whole life to psychotherapy – Melissa O’Neil.
Interesting Facts
- Since the show began filming in 2017, the casting took place at the same time. The first cast member was Nathan Fillion, the star of the “Castle” TV series. He approved himself, since he acts as an executive producer in the project. He was later joined by Afton Williamson and Eric Winter. It took 8 months to fully assemble the cast.
- Fillion’s recent years have focused on films and cartoons based on superhero comics. Nathan loves science fiction, especially Marvel and DC films. He often agrees to voice characters and even has his own character in the DC Universe.
- Eric Winter declined offers to become an actor for many years, as he wanted to build a career in the modeling business. Over the years, he was increasingly called to act in films and less and less for magazines. Since it was necessary to provide for his family, Eric made a choice in favor of an actor’s career. And he made the right decision – having good physical and acting skills, he is appreciated by directors.
- After filming the 1st season, Afton Williamson decided not to renew the contract with the studio and give preference to another project. After receiving a heavy fine, she was forced to reshoot at the end of Season 1, where her character was sent to serve in another department.
